Description
Mount Shasta rises above the incoming clouds in a dominating way as I take the photograph from across the valley from the road to Castle Lake. This peak rises to 14,179 feet making it the 5th highest in the state of California. It abruptly rises 10,000 feet above the surrounding areas, becoming the focal point of everything. Mount Shasta is considered a 'potentially active' volcano that last erupted in 1786, and flow in the form of basalt lava rock is encountered many miles away.
